FC Porto succes in the transfermarket visualized

In football, there are many ways to approach the transfer-market: from relying in a short-term, aggressive policy of buying the best players from around the world like Paris-Saint-Germain and Manchester City to producing  home-grown talent through the club academy to sell on a regular basis, like Ajax or Anderlecht. But the best example we have seen in the last decade is that of FC Porto,  which have consolidated themselves as the undisputed kings of the market. Since winning the Champions League in 2004 with José Mourinho on the bench, they have cashed in a total of € 782,53 million from players sales, according to transfermarkt data.

A summer of changes in Naples

The 2014/2015 campaign was a disappointing one for Napoli: it started badly with the elimination against the underdog Athletic Bilbao in the Champions League play-offs, and ended even worse, with the 2-4 home loss to Lazio that saw the Partenopei miss out on Champions League football for the second consecutive year. During his second year in charge, Benitez took a consistent step back, yet one of the worst season in his coaching career, surprisingly got him one of the most craved job in football.

Supercoppa Italiana – Juventus 2-0 Lazio: i nuovi acquisti regalano il trofeo ai bianconeri

“E’ pur sempre calcio d’agosto”. 

L’adagio che avete appena letto è il più in voga durante questo periodo dell’annata calcistica. Buono sia per giustificare prestazioni sotto la media, da imputare a gambe imballate dai carichi della preparazione e alla non ancora completa assimilazione dei principi tattici dell’allenatore di turno, sia per evitare, dopo qualche vittoria, magari roboante, ma pur sempre in amichevole, le malsane esaltazioni di tifosi e piazze dalla miccia un po’ troppo infiammabile.

Nella categoria sopracitata, rientra anche la Supercoppa italiana, vista, a secondo del lato da cui la si guarda, come epilogo della stagione passata o come atto inaugurale dell’annata a venire. Quest’anno se la sono contesa la Juve (quasi) piglia-tutto di Allegri e la sorprendente Lazio di Pioli, qualificata come finalista, seppur perdente proprio contro i bianconeri, della Coppa Italia.
